Welfare Needs of Pets
Teach children everything they need to know about keeping their pets happy and healthy, so that they can live their best lives.
Caring for pets is a big responsibility, but it can also be a lot of fun. Use our resources to teach children how they can keep animals happy and healthy:
- Environment: Animals need a safe, comfortable, and suitable place to live.
- Companionship: Some animals like to live with friends, but others prefer space to live on their own.
- Behaviour: Animals need the opportunity to behave in ways that are natural to them, and to have choices about when and where to do that.
- Health: Animals need protection from pain, harm and suffering, with the right help from people when needed.
- Diet: Animals need the right amount of healthy and suitable food, and access to fresh, clean water at all times.
- Mental State: Animals need safe, positive experiences in order to live their best life.
